Product & applications

About the drum cutter

A hydraulically driven cutting attachment with replaceable picks for controlled milling, profiling and trenching in suitable rock, concrete and asphalt. Compare transverse and vertical cutting arrangements for the work area.

Features & benefits

01

Hydraulic cutting drums

The hydraulic motor rotates a pick-equipped drum arrangement to remove suitable material through repeated cutting contact.

02

Transverse and vertical cutting drums

Twin transverse drums and a vertical drum provide different cutting footprints and access. Select the arrangement for the required trench or profile.

03

Replaceable cutting picks

Individual picks can be inspected and replaced as they wear. Pick selection must suit the formation and the selected cutter.

Typical applications

Excavator-mounted transverse drum cutter milling a rock face with dust at the cutting point
Rock-face milling with a transverse drum cutter
  • Trenching and utility worksCut a controlled trench in suitable ground, using the working width and available excavator access.
  • Rock and concrete profilingTrim suitable rock faces or concrete surfaces to the required profile within the cutter’s operating limits.
  • Surface removalMill suitable concrete or asphalt sections where the formation and embedded material are compatible with the selected picks.

  1. Excavator weight and lifting capacity

Compare the selected cutter’s carrier range and attachment weight with the excavator’s lifting chart and operating radius.

  2. Mounting interface

Confirm the actual pin diameters, centres, mounting width or coupler connection, plus the cutter bracket.

  3. Hydraulic supply

Check available flow, continuous pressure, return conditions and any required drain against the specific cutter installation instructions.

  4. Material and cutting geometry

Describe material strength, reinforcement, trench width, required profile and working clearance before selecting the drum and picks.

Product questions

Drum cutter questions

How do transverse and vertical drum cutters differ?

A transverse unit has cutting drums across the attachment; a vertical arrangement has a different drum axis and cutting footprint. Compare the required width, profile and available access.

Can I select a cutter using only excavator weight?

No. Excavator weight is only one check. Oil flow, pressure, mounting geometry, attachment weight and material conditions must also match the selected model.

Does maximum pressure describe the required working setting?

No. A maximum figure must not be treated as a universal operating setting. Use the selected cutter’s installation instructions to confirm continuous pressure, relief and return requirements.

Can this cutter work in any rock or reinforced concrete?

No. Material strength, reinforcement, pick type and cutting geometry affect suitability. Provide material details and the intended cut before configuration is selected.
