Product & applications

About the rock auger

A rock-tooth auger bit for drilling suitable rock, asphalt and ground containing substantial gravel. Match the cutting head to the formation and connect the bit to a separately specified hydraulic drive.

Features & benefits

01

Rock cutting head

The rock-type teeth and pilot are selected for rock, asphalt and gravel-rich ground rather than ordinary soil alone.

02

Helical spoil transport

The flighting moves loosened drilling material along the auger tube.

03

Series-specific connections

S4, S5, S6 and PA use the round, hexagonal or square connections listed in the dimension table.

04

Different flight thicknesses

The catalogue separates S4, S5, S6 and PA flight thicknesses; PA lists different bottom and remaining flight thicknesses.

Compare ground-cutting heads
Compare ground-cutting headsThe catalogue distinguishes sharp, rock, tungsten and PA rock heads. Paint colour does not identify the cutting mechanism.

Typical applications

Rock auger with carbide cutting teeth at a drilling site
Rock auger with carbide cutting teeth at a drilling site
  • Rock and gravel-rich groundDrill appropriate formations with the correct rock teeth, drive and operating method.
  • Asphalt drillingUse the matching head for holes through asphalt within the selected tool’s operating limits.
  • Posts and foundations in harder groundCompare formation, bore size and drilling depth before choosing the rock bit and drive combination.

The table records the common S4, S5, S6 and PA geometry. It does not specify a separate cutting-force or hydraulic rating for the rock teeth.

Installation requirements

Confirm the attachment fits your excavator

Before ordering, send the machine identification and the connection, power and working information relevant to this product.

  1. Cutting head and ground conditions

Describe the rock or asphalt, gravel content and required bore. Rock-tool naming alone does not establish suitability for every formation.

  2. Shaft and retention

Match the actual bit hub, shaft size and retaining connection to the selected drive.

  3. Torque and hydraulic drive

Use the drive’s own torque and hydraulic data, including its permitted bit diameter; do not infer them from flight thickness.

  4. Operating length and clearance

Check the selected bit and extension, underground services, lifting clearance and complete attachment weight.

Product questions

Rock auger questions

How is a rock auger different from an earth auger?

The ground-cutting teeth and pilot differ. Select the head for the formation, not just the same bore diameter.

Does this table provide rock compressive-strength limits?

No. It provides geometry and connections. Formation suitability must be checked for the cutting head and drive.

Do I need a different hydraulic drive?

That depends on the required torque, permitted bit diameter, hub and machine supply. Compare the actual drive specification.

Is every grey or black auger a rock auger?

No. Paint colour does not identify the cutting mechanism; inspect the teeth and pilot and use the documented application.
